March and Spring at Charbay means daffodils, flowering fruit trees, grape vines pushing young buds, some hail and lots of grass growing out of control. Here's what we're working on:
Marko is off on the Blood Orange and Pomegranate run - driving a huge truck full of fresh fruit from the grower to the distillery. Jenni is just back from a whirlwind NYC sales trip introducing Charbay Tequila to our loyal accounts.
I'm hearing more laughter coming from the winery & tasting bar... Mark's Still House calendar is filling in as the weather lures everyone back to Spring Mountain. My brother John has joined us to cover the winery bar on Sundays & Mondays, then he swings over to work production with Marko. He just bottled the 2006 wines and they are being labeled lot by lot. Mark is setting up the Wine Club Spring Release orders. We have a good year lined up for you at Charbay.
When you visit, don't get too close to Sniffy who has, again, been sprayed by a skunk! Marko soaked him with tomato juice but Sniffy still has that 'french roast' aroma. We occasionally hear "Do I smell skunk?" It's life on the mountain!
Here's to Spring!
Susan & the Charbay Family
WARNING: The End of an Era... Charbay-Charbay, the Original Aperitif/Dessert wine is retiring.
In 1987, Miles went to his lab and came out with his famous line, “Taste this!” It was the birth of Charbay! Miles blended barrel fermented dry chardonnay wine with our brandy liqueur. Why? It magically brought brandy to a heavenly comfort level with the aroma of toasty brandy and the flavors of chardonnay and brandy liqueur in one sip.
We coined Charbay to give it a name. ‘Char-’ from chardonnay and ‘-bay’ from the word brandy. A label with brightly colored ribbons was printed in September 1987 in time for the Winesong! tasting in Mendocino and Charbay dessert/aperitif wine was launched. We changed our business name from Domaine Karakash to Domaine Charbay in 1991.
Now, 23 years later, we have decided to retire 'Charbay' with the colorful ribbon label.
If you want to bake one more batch of Susan's bread pudding paired with a snifter of Charbay -Charbay, now's the time to get your order in. Charbay-Charbay has been the grand finale for many a party here on the mountain since 1987.
